Doc Tour Blog
The Doc Severinsen Big Band Tour was a resounding success. We had a fantastic time bussing about the midwest, plain states and even out to the Rockies. Doc’s form gained upon his early strong performances and by the end of the tour, he was absolutely crushing every show. It was such a joy to work with him day in and day out. His demeanor, stage presence and easy way with the guys revealed his vast experience. What a giant. More over, his sound is titanic! Timeless ballads like Georgia and Stardust grandly flow from his bell. Latin inspired numbers have flair and panache. Swinging big band classics sound more classic than ever when he lays…

Doc Severinsen Big Band
First rehearsal tonight. Doc said after the first tune, “I’m glad we’re doing this!”. Well Sir, we are glad as well! Not only are we lucky enough to hear and play with Doc, but we also have the juggernaut Ernie Watts with the band. My goodness!! Serious Heavy-weight! The rest of the saxes and rhythm section have traveled here with Doc. A great group of local guys comprise the brass section. Its a nice blend and wonderful to have a group of guys who know each other in the back. I think the tour holds great potential. I am very excited to play with this band.

Southside Aces
The Southside Aces perform traditional New Orleans jazz. The band first began as the brainchild of Clarinetist Tony Balluff and Sousaphone player Erik Jacobson. Their whispers and rumors materialized in Tony’s foyer near Pillsbury and 27th in South Minneapolis, late August 2003. Since their first gig on a flatbed truck in Apple Valley, they’ve played weddings, festivals, clubs— “music furnished for all occasions”. The Aces have self-produced and released three CDs: All Aboard on Mardi Gras, 2005,Bucktown Bounce in September of 2006, and A Big Fine Thing in June of 2011. Their music garnered the declaration, “A true authentic New Orleans dance-hall style band” from the New Orleans Traditional Jazz Quarterly.

Jack Brass Band
