TONIGHT: Chris Bates’ Red 5 at Jazz Central, 8pm doors, small donation
4th and Central, Northeast MPLS. Enter door on the southeast corner of the building and follow signage to the basement.
This is a group not to be missed. No piano or guitar leads to interesting compositional and improvisational opportunities. These monsters take full advantage.

THURSDAY: Zack Lozier Three at 331 Club, 930pm start, no cover
331 13th ave NE, MPLS
We love this hang and play our butts off every time Jason has us in his sweet room. The clientele are a welcome part of the atmosphere and the drinks are poured with purpose. The Steves always delight.
(Steve Pikal - b, Steven Hobert -p)
SATURDAY: Jazz Central All Stars, Sauk Centre, MN 7pm, clinic TBA
We get to tour the way back towns of Minnesota this year as the Jazz Central All Stars. Part of the Minnesota Arts Board grant program and in support of the Twin Cities Jazz Festival, we get the chance to play Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers material and other sextet arrangements of a similar bluenote vintage in neat theaters scattered across the state. The personnel is impressive to say the least. I am quite lucky.
(Doug Haining - s, Dave Graf - tb, Tanner Taylor - p, Graydon Peterson - b, Mac Santiago - d)
SUNDAY: Zack Lozier Three plus One, Aster Cafe BRUNCH, 11am-2pm, Saint Anthony Main, MPLS
Down along the river on the east bank, Patty and the Buttons hold down Sunday brunch to a full house of music appreciators, exuberant dancers and random walkers-by. THIS Sunday, Patty and the rest are required elsewhere. We, the ZL3, have the honor of covering and have been dubiously dubbed “Zack Lozier & the French Ticklers”. How can you stay away? Plus one equals none other than Gus Sandberg. He is a smooth criminal on the tenor and I am psyched to have him. Dean and Steve are of course no slouches themselves. See you there.
(Steve Pikal - b, Dean Harrington - g, Gus Sandberg - s)
Look at all the great players! I am very excited for the next few days. Please come out and say hi.
